Iain and Maija travelled from Latvia to celebrate an intimate wedding at Babylonstoren in South Africa’s Cape Winelands. Together as a group of five, they chose a day that was deeply personal, beautifully simple, and centred entirely around love - just them and their beautiful children.
Sometimes the smallest celebrations carry the biggest feelings.
An intimate Babylonstoren wedding with five people
Set at the foot of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley, Babylonstoren brings together historic Cape Dutch architecture, extraordinary gardens, mountain views and a rare sense of calm.
For Iain and Maija, it created the perfect setting for a destination wedding that never needed a large guest list to feel significant.
With only their closest people beside them, every glance, laugh, and embrace had space to be felt. There was no pressure to create a spectacle. The beauty came from being present and sharing something deeply meaningful with the people who mattered most.
Creating space for real emotion

Intimate celebrations leave room for the moments that can easily disappear during a busy wedding day. The nerves before the ceremony. Hands reaching for each other. Quiet conversations. Honest reactions. The kind of emotion that never needs to be directed.
Being behind my camera for Iain and Maija’s celebration was an incredible privilege. I could witness the day without pulling them away from it, creating photographs that held both the beauty of Babylonstoren and the genuine connection shared between these five beautiful people.
A beautiful connection between Latvia and South Africa
Maija’s bridal look felt refined, elegant and completely her own. Her hair and makeup were created by Kirsten Murphy Makeup, whose soft and intentionally understated approach suited the intimacy of the day beautifully.
Her wedding dress was designed by Latvian bridal designer Zane Zaharova Bridal, creating a beautiful connection between home and their celebration in South Africa.
From Latvia to Babylonstoren, this wedding was proof that intimate never means less. Fewer people simply created more space for connection, emotion and being completely present.
