Ryan and Kelsey’s Zorgvliet wedding in Stellenbosch was one of those celebrations where the setting was exquisite, but the people gave it meaning.
Surrounded by their closest friends and family, these two celebrated in the heart of the Cape Winelands with vineyards, mountains and one of Stellenbosch’s beautiful historic wine estates around them.
There is so much beauty to photograph at a place like Zorgvliet, but that is never the whole story for me.
It is the people.
The hugs. The expressions. The laughter. The people standing beside you while you say yes to doing life together. The moments happening around Ryan and Kelsey that they might not even have seen themselves.
That is where the good stuff lives.
And this day had plenty of it. ❤️
A Zorgvliet Wedding in Stellenbosch
Zorgvliet Wine Estate sits in the beautiful Banghoek Valley near Stellenbosch, surrounded by vineyards and the Simonsberg Mountains.
The estate offers a chapel for wedding ceremonies, the elegant Oak Room for receptions, the Banghoek Room for drinks and a Country Lodge within walking distance of the wedding venue. It gives couples the opportunity to bring so much of their celebration together in one place. Zorgvliet confirms these wedding spaces on its official venue page.
It is classic Winelands beauty, but without the setting having to become the entire story.
For a photographer, that balance is gold.
You have the big landscapes and mountain views when you want them, but you can also turn back towards the people and find the small moments happening inside the celebration.

An Exquisite Celebration With Their Favourite People
Ryan and Kelsey chose to share their wedding with the people closest to them.
And I think that matters.
A wedding can be beautifully planned, styled and designed, but the thing that gives all of it life is the people who walk into those spaces.
Friends who know every version of you.
Family who have been there from the beginning.
The people who cheer the loudest, laugh the hardest, and understand exactly what it means to see the two of you standing there together.
Those relationships are a huge part of what I want to preserve when I photograph a wedding.
Not just what Ryan and Kelsey looked like on their wedding day.
Who was there.
Who loved them.
And what it felt like to have all of those people together in one place.

Nicolette Weddings coordinated the wedding, while Goeters took care of the décor and flowers.
The beauty of great wedding design is that it creates a setting for people to celebrate without taking over the story.
Zorgvliet already brings vineyards, mountains and classic Stellenbosch character into the day. Add thoughtful planning and beautiful styling and you have a celebration that feels considered from beginning to end.
Then fill it with people.
That is when everything comes alive.

This is exactly what I love about photographing weddings in the Winelands.
There are opportunities for beautiful portraits and wide photographs showing the landscape, but there are also hundreds of smaller stories unfolding between those frames :)

The moments nobody could plan even if they tried.
My job is to pay attention to all of it.
I will always make space for a beautiful portrait, but I also want Ryan and Kelsey to look through these photographs years from now and remember the people, energy, and feeling of their wedding.
Because ultimately that is what these photographs become.
