Lalla Hirayama & Ross || Vibrant MolenVliet Vineyards Wedding

The best weddings do not feel like a performance. They feel like the people at the centre of them.

Lalla Hirayama and Ross’s MolenVliet Vineyards wedding in Stellenbosch was exactly that. Vibrant, generous, full of character and completely impossible to separate from the two people being celebrated.

Their wedding brought Lalla’s Japanese heritage and Ross’s Scottish heritage together in one deeply personal celebration. It did not feel like two separate themes placed next to one another. It felt like two histories, two families and two wonderfully vibrant personalities becoming one.

A Wedding Should Be You on a Plate

I genuinely believe that a wedding should be you on a plate.

It should not be a copy of somebody else’s day, a collection of trends chosen because they photograph well, or a show performed for a room. Your wedding should carry your history, your people, your humour, your energy and the things you love.

Lalla and Ross understood that completely.

Their celebration felt alive because it was honest. It reflected where they came from, who they are together and the people who have shaped their lives. The fusion of Japanese and Scottish heritage added meaning to the day, but it was Lalla and Ross’s personalities that gave it its heartbeat.

Curated With Personality by KRAAK

Hannes and the team at KRAAK planned and curated the wedding with enormous intention. Their approach to designed hospitality was the perfect fit for a couple who wanted their guests to experience something personal rather than simply attend something beautiful.

Every element felt connected to a larger story. Nothing appeared to exist purely for display. The atmosphere, tables, flowers, food and movement of the celebration all worked together to create an experience that felt unmistakably like Lalla and Ross.

Fleur le Cordeur brought her distinctive floral artistry into the celebration, adding character, texture and visual energy to the spaces.

The food by John Joseph Catering Avant Garde became part of the storytelling too. It was not simply something served to guests. It formed part of the experience and helped bring the idea of a wedding being “you on a plate” beautifully to life.

A MolenVliet Vineyards Wedding in Stellenbosch

Set along the banks of the Banghoekrivier, MolenVliet Vineyards is surrounded by vineyards, established gardens and the dramatic mountains of Stellenbosch.

It is a wedding venue that allows a celebration to breathe. The landscape gives photographs scale and beauty, while the gathering spaces keep guests connected to one another. There is room for beautiful portraits, but also for the smaller documentary moments happening between friends and family.

That combination makes MolenVliet an incredible Cape Winelands wedding venue to photograph. The surroundings are spectacular, but they never need to overpower the people or the story.

Documentary Wedding Photography With Heart

My approach as a wedding photographer is always to pay attention to how the day feels.

Beautiful portraits matter, but the real story also lives in the expressions, embraces, conversations and wonderfully unplanned moments happening around the couple. These are the photographs that bring the sound, energy and emotion of a wedding back years later.

Lalla and Ross did not need to be made interesting for the camera. Their personalities already gave the photographs electricity. My job was simply to pay attention, create when the moment called for it and preserve everything that made their celebration their own.

STIL_ joined the creative team for Third Eye photography, adding another visual perspective on the atmosphere, people and carefully considered details of the celebration.

Alongside the photography, TEORI Films preserved the celebration through film, capturing the movement, sound and energy of a wedding filled with personality, heritage and genuine connection.

A Celebration That Felt Completely Like Them

This wedding was beautiful because it was not trying to be anyone else’s wedding.

It was Japanese heritage meeting Scottish spirit. It was artistry, hospitality, food, family and friendship. It was Lalla Hirayama and Ross, fully themselves and surrounded by the people they love.

Exactly as a wedding should be!

Enjoy this magical day through my lens.

All my love,

Skillie @ Kikitography
